About Our Classes

At Hot Sauce we guide you through the cornerstone movements and legendary props of burlesque, transforming what you have learnt into choreographed performances.

Cornerstone Movements: Bump & Grind, Shimmies, Present and Parade, Poses and Walks.
Props: Feather Fans, Silk Fan Veils, Chairs, Boas, Panel Skirts and more.

Please note, not all props are offered every term.

Showcases

Each term, we provide an opportunity to put your hard work up on stage. Our iconic showcases consistently sell out - so expect a loud, cheering audience and incredible onstage and offstage vibe!

While participation is entirely optional, it is highly recommended.

About Class Levels

Beginner

Anyone new to Hot Sauce Burlesque School, regardless of background or prior knowledge. Offering an introduction, refinement or further development to fundamental level covering core burlesque movements.

Open Level

Must have completed at least one term in beginners or enrolled in beginners during the same term as you plan to enrol in Open Level. Developing stage craft and refining movement with reflections on core burlesque skills.

Intermediate

An intermediate class will work towards developing skill and opportunities to explore their individual flare in a group setting. Students must understand the elements of tease and reveal - working towards a routine with precision and finesse. This is more structured and skill-orientated than Open Level.

Advanced

This level requires a strong understanding of burlesque concepts and techniques. An advanced student is expected to execute their performance to an aspiring professional level by showing commitment and intention.
 Ability to learn and retain choreography through independent effort, resulting in precision and finesse of movement. 

Advanced can encompass all or some of the following: fast-paced choreography, high-level choreography, ability to understand and easily embody concepts, advanced characterisation/acting skills, advanced use of props and more. If you are doing an advanced class, a higher level of commitment and attendance is required.

Lyra Level

In the past few years I noticed there is very little gap between my open level and advanced classes. I tend to design my choreography and concepts organically - getting a feel for the class at the beginning of term and then planning accordingly - so this year, I am intentionally moving beyond traditional ‘Open’ or ‘Advanced’ labels and created ‘Lyra Level’. I push my students to meet the demands of each lesson, which will elevate your skills as a burlesque artist - so be ready to commit!

FAQs

Who can do burlesque?

Anyone! Burlesque is an inclusive artform that doesn’t take into account size, gender, age or barriers. It’s never too late to start.

Is there an age minimum?

Due to the sexual nature of burlesque, you must be 18 years or older to enrol.

I don’t have boobs - Can I still do burlesque?

Absolutely, see you in class Hottie!

I've danced at other schools/have a dance background, what level do I join?

We ask ANYONE new to Hot Sauce Burlesque to book into one of our fabulous beginner classes. This will be your introduction to Hot Sauce Burlesque’s style and techniques!
